PRIDE AND POVERTY
A Study of the Economic Challenges in the LGBTQ+ Community
Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, in collaboration with partner organisations, commissioned us to design Pride and Poverty, a research report exploring the economic realities of the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland. Challenging assumptions around financial security, the publication highlights lived experiences of inequality, housing insecurity, and systemic barriers. The project included a full report and a condensed summary booklet for both print and digital distribution.
The key challenge was translating a dense, research driven document into something clear, engaging, and accessible without losing its weight and sensitivity.
Through strong hierarchy, careful typesetting, and consistent layout systems, we structured complex information into a readable and cohesive experience.
Digital collage elements were introduced to add depth and emotion, reinforcing the human stories behind the data while maintaining a respectful tone.
The final outcome is a publication that feels both informative and impactful, balancing clarity with sensitivity. It supports the report’s mission to raise awareness, inform policy, and ensure that LGBTQ+ experiences are visible within conversations around poverty and inequality.
Launch
The report was officially launched at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, where it was presented to stakeholders, policymakers, and members of the community.
Seeing the publication in use within this context was a meaningful moment for us, reinforcing the role of design in supporting important social conversations and real world impact.
